Hello, I recently finished building my first desktop pc ever. Upon starting up the computer, it hit me with the select proper boot device error. I looked around the forum and tried some solutions such as making sure the boot order was correct. My bios detects my hard drive as well which hopefully means that it is plugged in correctly. What should I do to fix this? Thanks

Welcome to the TH community, Riifty!

Since you've made sure that the boot order is correct, it's possible that maybe some of the cables are loose, thus not detecting the booting CD/USB drive. (as @RARRAF mentioned, the Windows Installation media should be your first boot priority). So, I'd try using a different SATA cable with the drives and make sure that they are properly connected/seated.

Another thing that you should try is re-creating the Windows Installation media using the MS guidelines here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/clean-install
It's possible that the device (USB/CD) that holds the OS is faulty or not bootable.

Keep us posted. Hope this helps.
