Our buffalo tera station failed after power went out. I just need to get the data out of it. I think the original configuration might be raid 0 with 4 drives. I have a spare dell xps 410 has existing 1 drive with vista on it. I plan to hook up those additional 4 drives temporarily to it. I heard people may need to go to bios and enable the raid. Do I need to do that or I can I just boot to windows and use raid reconstructor or some other software to recover the data?

Welcome to Tom's Hardware, Flybuzz!

Unfortunately, if your original array was configured in RAID 0, I'm afraid that you won't be able to recover the data by yourself. It's actually rather risky to do such attempts by yourself. :( Such situations are exactly why we strongly recommend to do regular data backups and store them on more than one storage device, especially if we talk about data from a RAID 0. This particular RAID array has no redundancy whatsoever, which makes recovering the data extremely difficult.

I'd strongly recommend you to consider contacting a professional data recovery company for assistance. They are your best bet at getting the most of your files back! I'd even get in touch with the NAS manufacturer's customer...

Best of luck!
