hi guys. i know i have been changing my pc build a lot recently but i am hoping i could make this my final one. firstly, is ddr3 good for skylake processors. i am using an asrock b150m pro4 /d3 lga 1151 mobo and am planning to get 2x4gb @1600 ddr3 ram. is this rm compatible. if so is there any performance increase. Now for xfire bit. will an i5 6400 do good for a hd770 (r9 280x equivalent) crossfire. im planning on upgrading to crossfire in the future only and not now. will i see some bottleneck at all? would ddr3 ram affect this. i really could use the help guys. in advance, thx.

Technically Skylakes MC only supports ddr4 and ddr3l. Some boards support ddr3 but you run the risk of eventually damaging the mc using ddr3. With that boarx i suggest using ddr3l or getting a board with ddr4 support. Running a 7970 with a low quality 450w psu like the corsair VS is a bad idea and just asking for problems.

well does 4460 offer same performance in gaming. and i mean exact performance in gaming. i5 4460 also costs more for me. 10 dollars extra and my specs are in a tight budget. so i wanna make every bit worth it

well if i get a 4660. will a asrock b85m pro4 be good for crossfire and evrything else in my specs. i really a desperate o use that one as it is the best and compatible option. plus it is pretty cheap too so yeh. i would go for msi b85m g43 but it is not on cpl.com.au

its not compatible with asrock b85m pro4 man. how about corsair vs 550. its an upgrade from 450 and the only solution for me right now

I'd get a Z97 board if you can. ASUS's Z97p board is a great little board for the money, plus it even has M.2 support. While ASRock are "up and coming" I would just get an ASUS or Gigabyte because they are more reliable. The B85 chipset will hold you back if you buy a K chip, there is no official support for OCing.

Yes, but its all about futureproofing. You may not plan to overclock NOW, but in the future you may want to and then you'll have to buy a new motherboard. Plus, the Z97 chipset is faster than the B85 chipset.

If you have no plan to OC, and you're sure and don't mind buying a new motherboard later on if you ever do, then I would just buy a H81 board. They're quite a bit cheaper than the B85, and still offer great features at a reasonoably low price.
