Hello, I first encountered this BSOD yesterday when I exited out of 10 minutes of MGSV gameplay on ultra and began moving GTAV from an external HDD I had borrowed to my pc.

The movement process on the taskbar turned red after some time and the pc froze. I hit the restart switch on my PC, booted up fine, tried moving the file again and met with the bsod.

Tried installing the game directly from the hdd today, it finished installing halfway and then hit me with the bsod again.

Can provide the bsod dumps if required

specs
AMD FX-8320
PowerColor AMD R9 280X
Corsair 8gb ram
Stock cooler, no additional fans except for the one on the case (CM K380)
1TB WD Caviar Blue HDD
Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 Motherboard
Antec VP550 550 PSU

Nothing is overclocked, running Crimson 15.11

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply! As it turns out though, the USB 3.0 port on the case was causing the issue. Plugging in the ext HDD to a usb port on the mobo and moving the files went thru smoothly.
NMI hardware failures are really not a good sign.

They can relate to a physical hardware fault.

In your case if you were playing metal gear solid v and you received that error.
And if you were moving the data from the external drive to the same drive that MGS V is also installed to.
It can point to a physical problem with the 1 TB drive you have.

The other cause of why you receive an NMI error can be down to a fault in your system memory.

I suggest depending on your ram configuration, and how many ram stick you have, if for example 2 x 4Gb sticks.
That you test each stick of the memory on it`s own by doing a memory test of at least two passes of each memory stick.

The error can also be generated when you mix ram that differs in speed and latency settings also.
So I hope you have a matched pair of 4Gb memory sticks in your system, and not mixed.

And that you test or check, the hard drive and it`s integrity.
Also replace the Sata cable for the internal 1Tb drive to the motherboard.
As it can cause a NMI error also when copying data to and from drive to drive.

Anyway they are all the things you should do to resolve an NMI system error message Vicktory.
