Hello community!

I do apologize for my noobishness ahead of time, I am new to building.

I also apologize if this is in the wrong location.

I have been planning a budget gaming build for a while now, and was able to start picking up components the other day, I got an ASUS h97 plus, and have a 550 watt PSU laying at home. I am looking at using 1 and eventually 2 r9 270x's. is it worth it to get them in the 4 GB? I heard they can really only utilize a gig and a half roughly.

what should i get as far as a processor? the board has an 1150 socket, so its one that i could upgrade in the future with better chipsets as they get cheaper. What processor would be best to start with, and do they all support crossfire? or do only specific ones support crossfire?

What would be a good amount of ram? I was thinking 8 gigs of either ripjaws x or ballistix tactical? any real difference between the two?

as for storage i was thinking a WD blue 1-2 tb, maybe get a raid array going in the future

Solution
Since you have a H97 board your overclocking will be limited, so get the i5 4460. If you don't want to spend $180 on your processor, wait until a G3258 goes on sale for 50-60, use that for a while and then get an i5 later.

I honestly don't know much about the R7 270X but it makes sense that the 4gb version would allow for a little more futureproofing.

Have you considered an SSD for your operating system? You can get a 240 Gb SSD for less than $100, and add a storage HDD as needed.

Did you mean 4460? I couldn't find 4660 anywhere

I have. A boot SSD would be nice. It may take a while to fill 240 gigs.

Ill keep my eyes out for deals on the G3258.

Will my mobo fit in almost any case? or are there certain cases/types/sizes to look for?

How does this look? Is it overkill? I want to be able to do 4k relativity smoothly, but mainly league of legends, and other misc steam games, some even from the mid 90's. Are there cheaper/better alternatives

Also every component will be brand new when the machine sees power for the first time, are there any special steps or precautions I should take?

That looks great, and should meet all of your needs you have listed. The only thing I might recommend is using one, more powerful graphics card instead of the two R9 270Xs. Pc Part Picker doesn't have pricing data for the R9 270s, but a quick search showed they run from 150-180. You could get one R9 290 or 390 for about the same price, probably a little less, get similar performance, have less hardware headaches, and less noise, heat, and power consumption when compared to running two cards.
