I'm going to upgrade my pc from a gigabyte 990fxaud5 and a fx8120 to a z97X-gaming5 and a i7 4790k, but I will keep the same HDD, after I change the hardware could I just plug in the HDD and use it like before? Or I need to format the HDD?, I dont really want to do it because is too much information.

[*What steps should I follow? ] Don´t really know how to do this.
Sorry for my English, learning it :)

Hey there, FireLostAngel!

I'd second @Milheim on the backup of your data! You can use another computer or an external HDD to copy the files from that internal HDD. You'd most definitely need to reformat and re-install Windows from scratch. The OS is tied to the motherboard, changing that is like changing the computer altogether.
Even though the motherboard models belong to the same manufacturer which might actually let you use the same OS and product key, the CPUs are different and I'm not sure that it'd let you use the same OS.
I'd advise you to let MS customer support know about your system ugprades and, hopefully, they'd be able to give you a new activation code. Otherwise, you'd need to buy a new genuine Windows installation...
