Hi Toms Hardware,

Last night I shut down my computer with the "Update and Shut Down" button, and this morning to my horror, I am unable to get past the rainbowy screen with the date and time. Usually it would be a click of the mouse or the tap of a key on my keyboard to bring me to the password entry page, but neither of these work. Not sure if its a complicated windows problem, or rather something like my mouse and keyboard being disabled. I am however able to get into the bios and use my mouse and keyboard perfectly there. Unfortunately I didn't have any system restore points so that was to no avail.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the same exact thing happens at the login screen in safe mode. Also, I notice that after I leave the bios, the "Num Lock" light on my keyboard turns off... it is usually on as far as I can remember.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

~Alex

Solution
Try these two things:
1) Turn off the computer and unplug it. Hold down the power button for a few seconds then plug it back in and start up normally.
2) Try starting up the computer with keyboard and mouse unplugged. Plug them in when you get to the login screen.

Sounds like some sort of glitch or possible driver corruption. If the two above don't help you might need to use a repair disk to run diagnostics.
