Can you do a mirror raid with combination of SSD and HDD?

It will work, but your faster drive will be limited to the slower drive.

You get the worst of both worlds.
The slowness of the HDD, and the small size of the SSD.

Don't do this. You be crippling the capabilities of both drives.

and you will probably shorten the life of the SSD to a few months at most

Right, this won't be pretty if you do that. RAID 0 wouldn't be much better either. Best not to play with RAID between an SSD and HDD.
