I had an i3 4170 combined with r9 380 4gb but I was getting awful performance, so I sell my i3 at a good price and I found an offer of i5 3550s much cheaper even than the i3.So iam thinking Of buying i5 3550s I need also to sell my motherboard and get a new one. What would you suggest me??
Will i5 3550s bottleneck my r9 380 and have serious performance issues like my previously i3???
Also iam from Greece and the price of an i3 is 125€ an cheapest fourth Gen i5 cost 185€,but I found i5 3550s only 75€.

Ok but exactly the same I had read for the i3, but it make huge drops in fps from 60 to 25 and if I turned on some settings like shadow quality which I CPU intensive I got unplayable fps

i5 has more cores then the i3 but then again the i3 has hyper threading so they are essentially equal. I would save up to buy a i5-4460. That will for sure not bottleneck it and it is a great cpu for the money.

The i3 wouldn't do that in many games. What games were you seeing performance drops in and what made you suspect the CPU is the issue? You may well be right, but it's worth properly identifying the problem rather than spending money on something which only "might" fix it.

Edit. Nvm. Just as a reminder, to get an 3550s, you'd be going backwards in technology. It's wiser to save money and buy an i5-4xxx that works with your motherboard. If you switch motherboards, you're talking about re-installing everything. And if it's Windows 10, you'll also have to call Microsoft as I believe all W10 keys are tied to the board.
