hey all i found a 6870 for 50 dollars used and i dont know if my psu can handle it. the minimum psu recomendation is 500w but my corsair vs450 is 50 watts under the limit. my vs 450 has two 8 pin connectors for pcie which is surprising for a 450w psu.
if anybody can help it would be great, thanks

Did you mis-read that for 2x6870s? That seems hugely excessive for a single 6870 with a slightly OC'd Haswell Pentium.

OP - You have a pretty poor quality PSU there, which is a shame, but it's not absolute junk and is rated for a little over 400W on the 12V rail. That means a single 6870 would be well within spec for that PSU. Guru 3D estimated under 150W for that GPU under full stress: http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/radeon-hd-6850-6870-review,10.html
The rest of your system should never exceed 150W, and under "normal" gaming or other heavy workloads should be well under that and around half or a little over your 408W 12V rating.

IMHO you're okay. Definitely get a better PSU next...

560ti is similar power-wise. I don't think you're cutting it that close, personally. Others tend to play it extremely safe. The fact is though that you'll always be under the rated wattage of your PSU.

A new 750ti would be ideal, because they're so efficient. But if that out of your budget you should be safe with the 6870.
