Plugable has a higher 5-star rating compared with 1 star as opposed to Mediasonic (59% 5-star/13% 1-star)
I wouldn't recommend keeping the drive exposed like that. Doing so means that it is more prone to accidents. For instance, you could easily damage the HDD with a spilled drink or by accidentally keeping heavy objects on it. It also offers no protection should you drop it. The Plugable one is meant more for use as a hot swap bay, for instances wghere you need to plug and unplug many hard drives daily for maintenance or data transfer. You need to look for a HDD Enclosure, not a Docking Station.
The Mediasonic maintains a 4 star rating with 591 reviews, as of the time of writing. For me, that is enough to point to it being a good product.
