Hey, so the title says it all. Theres been quite a few complaints about this, just wanting to clarify if this is a game related issue and not a hardware.

SPECS:

GTX 970 STRIX
I5 6500
8Gb DDR4

Solution
lots of people have problems with borderlands, especially when cranking up physx. i've got 2 970s, an i7 4790k, and 16gigs ram and the pre sequel still boggs down to 20-40fps when theres a lot of goo and explosions going on on screen. i was playing online co-op at the time, never really tried solo, but still. shouldnt hit me that hard.

So your GPU usage also goes way down at parts as well?

But my question is about low GPU usage. I don't have a cpu bottleneck but the usage of the GPU is 50%- pretty much all of th time.

ah, ok, i see your question. sorry about that. honestly i never check the usage. are you experiencing issues? its not a bad thing if you're not using a lot of horsepower and the game is working the way its supposed to. the card isnt going to speed up to 100% unless it needs to leverage the power.

Agree with cosmoji. If you play minesweeper and you GPU is not at 100% there isn't really a problem.

Same applies here.

Bear in mind, just because one scene in the game is only using 50%, it doesn't mean that during a firefight full of particles and bad guys and explosions your usage won't go up.

Yeah i mean the games playable its just sometimes it'll go down to 40-50 with only 35% gpu usage with Physx but most of the time im at 40% gpu usage and i cap the fps at 72. I just wanted to know if this was normal as if you search it up on google many posts are complaining about the same issue. So i was just confirming that this is a game issue and not a hardware one.

yeah, likely a game issue. the physx of the borderlands games is very poorly optimized. some games, no matter how powerful the system, will still have issues when the game just doesnt run perfectly.

I think its a game issue. I am having problems with Borderlands myself, and every other game I play runs totally fine.

Unfortunately borderlands just doesn't seem to like to run very well for a large majority of people, especially those with 900 series nvidia cards.

Yeah my game has problems too.. GPU usage stays pretty much under 30%, CPU usage hovering at about 50%. Fps-wise I get drops to 30´s and 40´s from time to time. Never used PhysX because I know how terribly optimized it is for bl2. Gtx 970 g1 gaming here, paired with i5-4460, 16Gb of DDR3. I've heard it might have something to do with win 10. By far my favorite game, countless hours on ps3, part of the reason I migrated to PC was to get to experience the game truly. Kinda let me down.
