I'm currently looking at the below parts for a new rig for current gaming (I have a case already AeroCool VS92) and fans and optical drive etc

budget is in GBP and is about £900, the below come to £920 between Ebuyer and Overclockers which is about my limit as there'll be shipping on top of that:

Gigabyte GTX 970 4GB GDDR5 OC Windforce 3x
Intel Core i5 6600k 3.2GHz
Gigabyte GA-Z170X-GAMING 3-EU Socket LGA1151
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz
Crucial CT500MX200SSD1 MX200 500GB
EVGA Supernova 750W Semi Modular 80+ Bronze Power Supply
Akasa Venom Voodoo

Thanks in advance

Thanks Vetsku :)

_______

that article about memory speed is very interesting, i didn't think 3200 was too overkill, as I remember reading similar about memory previously (that beyond a certain speed it doesn't have any real performance impact)

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 2666MHz C16 Memory Kit - Black 1.2V saves around £20 and gets me right on budget, nice one :)

__________

Just read about the new Nvidia 3D chips, will they really be released in January? (I could wait a month or two more, I've been waiting and thinking for 6+ months to build this rig (was waiting for Windows 10, then Skylake/Cheap DDR4, etc etc etc) lol)

__________

The Samsung 850 Evo and Crucial MX200 are almost identical on Price and i see mixed reviews of both, the charts here at toms hardware seem to have them neck and neck as well, everyone has an opinion as they say :) please could you link the reviews you've found? Thanks :)

The Akasa Venom Voodoo is a CPU cooler, only 3 degrees hotter than the best Noctua a D-14? and about £20 cheaper - i dont expect to kick the arse out of that i5-6600k and its got a low TDP anyway

is it worth looking at PCI-e based SSDs?

because the i5-6600k is so cutting edge i'm thinking of buying it now and using my old graphics card (Radeon 5850) until Nvidia Pascal comes out, how long will it be?

ooh lovely, thank you, I have always wondered about the high queue depth thing as well, good to know i'll be in safer hands with the 850 Evo, thank you :)

I've got one of the cases next to me and there's 11" between the PCI backplane thing and the 5.25 bay mount bit, also its 5.25 bays all the way down the front (and I'll put my SSD at the top somewhere) so there'll be a load of space beyond the end of it if you see what I mean?

Well it should fit any Midi tower but just take care and see how the airflow will be.I had the same problem and changing the case got me like 10 degrees inside my case which is huge.

I've been looking at the same processor. Since you said you were getting it from ebuyer or overclockers, have you looked at the amazon price? They're not in stock at the moment, but it's £155 with free delivery. Should save you £20 over the ebuyer price and £45 better than overclockers.

Ooh thanks for the Amazon tip!

I'll keep an eye on the GPU airflow, do you know why it's a problem in some cases? Air getting around it or not getting around it? Does a fan on the side help?

Well I don't quite know the GPU but I do know that it has 3 fans and probably connected with 2 6pin cables from the PSU. Those cables can be a bit messy in smaller cases and obstruct air intake especially it the GPU goes all the way to the drive bays. I personally consider the drive bays an obstruction as well but that is just me......

I just looked up your case, AeroCool VS92. It looks like it has a single front and a single rear fan. If I had that case I'd have it setup with a total of 2 or 3 front fans (based on HDDs and what not. And if needed I could get a bearing fan for the bottom. All those fans would pull air in. Then keep that rear exhaust.

Second, giving the way that case is designed...don't worry about GPU length. It'll accomodate whatever you need.

The only issue I see with the case is...is there room behind the mobo to hide cables? If not, then you'll have to find some way to keep cables together near bottom. But air flow won't be an issue in this case.

It has a pair of 120MMs in the top as well, I'm not sure what your feelings are towards top exhaust?

It also has room for 2x140MMs in the front if you're careful and room behind the mobo for some cables at least so yea, hopefully airflow will be good,

I think its a very nicely laid out case for ~£30 :)
