Components;
Gskill sniper 2400 2x8gb sticks
Asus Z-97-A (latest bios)
4790k (no OC)
Gtx 980
evga 850w gold psu

I posted about this problem awhile ago thinking it was a ram issue. I memtested the ram for 12 hours and had 0 fails while the problem still persisted. Even with no xmp profile my system will fail to boot.

The cpu LED now lights up when it fails to boot, I reseated the cpu and heatsink. I also made sure all the power connectors were tight and blew them out with air. I had my first problem other than it failing to boot yesterday with a hard freeze (before I did anything with the cpu).

If the pc wouldn't boot up at all I'd know it was a faulty part and just RMA it, but with it booting up after several tries and working fine 99% of the time I have no idea what is wrong. Even when I have no overclocks, no xmp profile it will fail to boot and eventually give me the screen that says overclock failed and reset, letting me boot and everything just fine.

Thanks in advance for any help, I've tried everything I can think of.

I did try placing it in another slot same thing. When it does boot up I've had 0 graphical problems. These problems did start happening after I bought a 2nd displayport monitor though.

Yes, it boots with or without the graphics card. It's only sometimes when it won't boot, usually when I turn it on for the first time that day. After manually powering on and off several times it will say overclock failed and boot up fine.
