Hi, I was recently informed that in order to upgrade to 4790k, I'd need a new motherboard and PSU.
I'm looking for a motherboard around $100, but 150 would be acceptable if necessary. As for the PSU I'd hope that it wouldn't be any more than $80.
Any suggestions would be usefull, thanks.
Please let me know, if you need more information than what I provided.
-Windows 10 Home 64-bit

-Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 610

The 750W PSU would allow for greater future expansion, the 550W PSU is very efficient and plenty for what you have now and even to add a GTX 970. I have used both PSUs with school builds and they are great.

You will have to re-key your Operating system for the new motherboard. Your system will now be very GPU limited. You need to save for a GPU upgrade soon.

Getting parts from as few suppliers as possible is a good idea.
Is this for gaming? I assume that you want to overclock the CPU. Are there any other features that you want? The gigabyte Z97X Gaming 5 is a great general purpose motherboard, suitable for anything, but there are many other possibilities. What are your future expansion plans, if any? SLI?

The ASRock Z97 Extreme 4, and the ASUS Z97 A are both also good.

Honestly I wasn't planning on overclocking.
I simply want to upgrade for a better performance, and for the possible future purchase of the GTX 970 Graphics Card.
It is indeed for gaming, but I'm not really interested in extra features. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out when I get home.

If you are not going to overclock, then almost any Z97 board would do, or even a H97 board, but that would limit your future. Something around $100 would be my choice.

The ASRock Z97 Extreme 4 will give you a decent price now and allow for good possibilities in the future. It will support one (or two) GTX 970s.

It's great news that I could get one for about $100 Thanks again for your help.
As far as the PSU is concerned, I was informed in a previous post, that I'll need at least 550 watts. Can you confirm that this is true, and if it is, do you have any recommendations for one under $100. Preferably I'd like to buy one for around $50, but that'd probably be unreasonable, so whatever you can recommend would be great.

You're amazing thank you so much. I have to pick out one by today, so these quick responses are very useful. So looking at my computer's specs, there's nothing else I'll need to upgrade to be able to use the 4970k besides the motherboard and PSU? Also do you suggest getting the first or second PSU you recommended. If I didn't post enough specifications let me know what I need to post please. Thanks again.

So one last thing, I promise. I was looking at the motherboard you recommended, and it has like really awful reviews. Almost half of the buyers, said that it stopped working before even a year of usage. Is there any other motherboard you'd recommend, or should I just trust this one?

I saw bad reviews on NewEgg and Amazon, but I asked around a bit more, and people seem to like it. Plus I realized that if I do get a defective chip, I can always request a new one. Thanks again for all your help man.
