Hello everyone,

I'm going to be installing a brand new motherboard and it seems that I'll need to do a clean installation with it.

My question is:

Am I able to use Windows 7 OEM?

Everywhere I look online all seem to point to the answer yes.

However, all descriptions of the product always say that its "complicated".

Just how different/complicated is installing an OEM as opposed to, say, a retail package?

Here is the OEM that I'm currently looking at: http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Premium-Builder-Refurbished-Installation/dp/B00LG0K4MM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1450466622&sr=8-2&keywords=windows+7+home

**Second side question: This particular OEM is supposed to be used only for refurbished PCs. Would I be able to use this like any other "normal" OEM on my upgraded build (new motherboard)?

Hello... if you have a Valid sticker/key you can install it, Win7=OEM Win7=OWNER... And all rights and privy's of "Ownership"... You have 30 days to activate your install... pretty simple... WIN 7 allows hardware exchange/Repair... Sometimes a simple phone call is needed to complete activation.
Win 7 OEM is not a "Disposable OS" or "rentable" but "Ownable"

As a much faster/better install I recommend DL ISO WIN7 SP1 and use the key you have with it... saves a lot of install/updating time. B )

OEM versions of Windows 7 are identical to Full License Retail versions except for the following:

- OEM versions do not offer any free Microsoft direct support from Microsoft support personnel

- OEM licenses are tied to the very first computer you install and activate it on

- OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

- OEM versions cannot be used to directly upgrade from an older Windows operating system

I unfortunately do not have my key with me. It's been a long 5 years since I've seen that thing.

In any case, thank you for clarifying those things.

However, this still leaves the question of whether or not I can use the PC refurbish OEM for my pc or if I need to use a "regular" OEM.

Hello... I feel a driver license, birth cert, SS card, credit/debit card, OS KEY sticker ( install media )... are things a person need to keep track of... I see comments on the product seeming to say you will not get a KEY with this purchase? making it just a Windows 7 SP1 ISO type install media for $65. B/

It will take 30 mins to find out your activation status with your own Download and ORIG key... B )

There are free OS paths out there... if you wanna "Window" buy, own and protect your purchase.

Hmm, a very interesting comparison. I feel that birth certificates/SS card do not equate to a key. You are effectively comparing a steak dinner to a wrapped candy piece. Both are important in completely different ways/magnitudes.

Also cool. I did not see that about the product key not being included. And as far as free OS paths goes . . . yea. I might know a guy from a certain bay which pirates from around the world frequent.

Thanks for your help.
