Hey, I'll keep it short

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K
MoBo: ASRock X99 Extreme6/ac (supports up to 3000mhz RAM)
Cooler: CRYORIG R1 Universal (does not block RAM slots)

Planning to overclock when I buy these(duh). I need 32GB memory but I'm not sure what to get for best performance and CPU durability. I doubt I will ever need more than 32GB so it probably doesn't matter if all RAM slots get filled already.

1) 2x16gb or 4x8gb or 8x4gb? (I guess 2x16 is out of the question because quad channel is faster)
2) DDR4-2133 or DDR4-2400 or DDR4-2666 or DDR4-2800 or DDR4-3000? (I read that you can overclock RAM too so does it even matter =/)

Solution
I'd go 4x8GB prob in 2666 or so and suggest the GSkill Ripjaws 4 (yes, higher bandwidth does increase overall performance, especially with RAM centric apps, multi-tasking and the like...games are even showing better performance with faster DRAM) (And all DDR4 currently is 'for' Intel as AMD has no DDR4 offering ;) when (?????) AMD drops something that will run with DDR4 it will run the same DDR4.

Are you sure about that? Why doesn't everyone just get the cheapest option then?

It depends on what you will be using your PC for. As it is, quad channel or dual channel or a single stick you wont see much of a performance difference. In terms of ram capacity, buy what you think will adhere to your needs.

A very RAM-demanding application.
