Can't Open Ports on ASUS RT-N66U

Hey! So I've been having some connection issues as of lately and figured out that most of them result from having closed ports on my router. So after reading some guides on how to open ports on my specific router, I went ahead and did what the guides said to do to open the ports. But none of it worked. After trying to open port 3074, I used a port checker and it said it was still closed. I've tried several different things now such as: disabling the firewall on my router, disabling the firewall on my pc, assigning a static IP address to my pc, and trying to open other ports. Nothing worked. For some reason it won't let me open any ports AT ALL. Has anyone had this problem before or know how to remedy it? Thanks!

Solution
Yes. If it's a game that uses that port then run it before testing. As a matter of interest, where did you get the port number from? Are you sure you need that port open.

I'm not sure. After I open the ports in the Port Forwarding section under the WAN menu, I hit apply. I've also tried opening the ports, applying the changes, then rebooting and still nothing.

Are you hitting the plus icon to add the rule before hitting apply?

The service name can be whatever, port range should be 3074 and the ip address should be the IPv4 address of your PC that you need the port opened on. You can leave the local port blank. Hit the + icon to actually add the rule, then hit apply.

Make "Enable Port Forwarding" option is checked to yes.

You might also need to allow that port access through the firewall on the OS of your PC.

Do you actually have a program listening on that port? If not it won't respond to an external checker.

It's a bit like diverting a telephone number. Opening a port redirects to a different telephone, but if that telephomne doesn't exist - or no-one is listening to it - you're not going to get an answer.

I have an ISP provided modem if that's what you mean.

I don't think so. So should I have like a game running in the background to check the port?

Ok. I've been having consistent disconnects on Rainbow Six: Siege, so I did some research and it seemed some people were able to remedy that by opening that port. I thought I would at least try it.
