Is it possible to run two instances of one game on one PC?

I recently had a friend over who is currently a console gamer, I also used to be a console player. While over at my house we played a few PC games and wanted to go head to head against each other in call of duty. PC games don't usually have splitscreen(not sure why), but I had the bright Idea to run two instances of the game and join each via LAN(I have dual monitors and more than enough capability of running two instances of BO2). However the game would not let me run it twice and neither would MW2, BO1, or WAW. Is there any way in the future that I can run the game twice on dual monitor? Is there a software that I can get to let me do this?

ok that will not be strong enough to virtualize two instances of and os and a game in each. to run this you would need a minimum of a quad (8 threads for good performance) 8-16...

Hmmm, I think you'd need two licenses of the game to do that (depending on the game). once you have two licenses, then do you still need to run on one computer? It is possible with virtualization, but 3D performance is probably going to suffer.

Highly upgraded Pre-Built Micro-ATX
AMD Athlon II X2 220 2.8GHz Dual-Core CPU.
AMD Radeon R5 230 2GB GPU.
6GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM
ASRock 970M Pro3 Motherboard.
Corsair CX430 80+ Bronze PSU.
2 1TB HDD. Windows 7 Ultimate.
Dual-Monitors

and before you ask why I say I'm capable of running two instances, I dabble in programming and was able to optimize each game title on my PC to get 60 FPS steady on medium/high settings.
