Is 500w sufficient for my CPU and GPU?

I'm getting an upgrade around Christmas time. I'm getting the AMD Athlon x4 860k, the EVGA GeForce 730 2gb GDDR5, and the EVGA 500w PSU (Silver).

Is the PSU enough for the other components, if not can you give me a recommendation? I cannot go over $50.

Also, if there's a better GPU for around the same price that you know of can you let me know?

Not sure which PSU you mean when you say silver. But All of EVGAs 500w models do put out the rated amount of power and that should be sufficient for this build.

500w is enough, but the quality of that psu is not good. It depends how much you want to spend on your gpu.

The EVGA 750w B2 is a great power supply. But given that this is a low-budget, low-power build you can afford to use a mediocre tier 3 power supply. I like the Antec VP450 for this kind of application: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/antec-power-supply-vp450

If you were doing an i5 4690K overclocked with a GTX 970 it would be a different story and tier 2 or tier 1 would be highly recommended.

A 860K and GT 730 will not even pull 300w at full load. 450w is more than sufficient. You can actually put a 750 Ti on this and still not get above 300w.

But while we're here, if I was going to upgrade my motherboard for under $50, how would I go about doing that, and do you all have any recommendations? Sorry for the barrage of questions, this is the first time I've upgraded my computer besides ram.

with gt 730 for gaming in 1366x768 resolution ...no problem , but not more

get at least r9 270x or gtx 960 for higher resolution
