So, I had my Windows 7 hard drive corrupted today, I cannot even access safe mode
and I didn't make a backup for it but I have another hard drive (this Ubuntu I'm using)
so I think I can do something about my corrupted disk.
What I want to do is to extract some important data from the broken drive with Ubuntu.
How should I do this? Any software that can help?
Searching and reading line by line on the tutorial pages make me crazy. Thank you
The corrupted disk is NTFS formatted.
This is the error shown when I tried to mount the disk.
Error mounting /dev/sda2 at /media/ng572/2C041C1F041BEB1A: Command-line `mount -t "ntfs" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=1000,gid=1000,dmask=0077,fmask=0177" "/dev/sda2" "/media/ng572/2C041C1F041BEB1A"' exited with non-zero exit status 13: ntfs_attr_pread_i: ntfs_pread failed: Input/output error
Failed to read NTFS $Bitmap: Input/output error
NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a
SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows
then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very
important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate
it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g.
/dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation
for more details.
Please tell me if you think I haven't provided enough information.
Also, I am only able to use my product key after installing the windows 7, so I cannot just submit my key to the Microsoft website and download an iso. I want to get a Home-Premium windows 7 iso file but the Microsoft disabled direct download recently. Where can I download a safe iso??
