So, I had my Windows 7 hard drive corrupted today, I cannot even access safe mode
and I didn't make a backup for it :( but I have another hard drive (this Ubuntu I'm using)
so I think I can do something about my corrupted disk.

What I want to do is to extract some important data from the broken drive with Ubuntu.
How should I do this? Any software that can help?
Searching and reading line by line on the tutorial pages make me crazy. Thank you

The corrupted disk is NTFS formatted.

This is the error shown when I tried to mount the disk.
Error mounting /dev/sda2 at /media/ng572/2C041C1F041BEB1A: Command-line `mount -t "ntfs" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=1000,gid=1000,dmask=0077,fmask=0177" "/dev/sda2" "/media/ng572/2C041C1F041BEB1A"' exited with non-zero exit status 13: ntfs_attr_pread_i: ntfs_pread failed: Input/output error
Failed to read NTFS $Bitmap: Input/output error
NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a
SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows
then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very
important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate
it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g.
/dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation
for more details.

Please tell me if you think I haven't provided enough information.

Also, I am only able to use my product key after installing the windows 7, so I cannot just submit my key to the Microsoft website and download an iso. I want to get a Home-Premium windows 7 iso file but the Microsoft disabled direct download recently. Where can I download a safe iso??

Solution
Hi

To test your HDD you need manufacturer specific software
eg WD or Seagate etc
Hirens Boot CD has a good collection of HDD Diagnostic programs
including WD data lifeguard 4 Windows which can test (but not repair) most brands of HDD

If you have bad sectors (as stated in one report you showed) and they are in critical places then you wont be able to run chkdsk

If data on HDD realy is important goto a professional data recovery company and dont try your self

Parted Magic (linux based) has a number of data recovery utilities including ability to clone a disk with a few bad sectors (ddrescue)

If there are only a few bad sectors it may be possible to fix them, before trying to recover the data

regarding Windows ISO images

What happens when you go here:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/home

and put in your license key when it asks?

Error

The product key you entered appears to be for software pre-installed by the device manufacturer. Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options.

Thanks

Then that is what you do. You contact your manufacturer.
You have an OEM license, and MS expects you to get the install media from them.

regarding Windows ISO images
Microsoft only allows retail versions of 7, 8, 8.1 or 10 to be downloaded using retail keys which need to be entered before download
The OEM versions at digital river were taken down

There are Enterprise Trial versions of 8.1 & 10 available from Microsoft

best of luck
