Hi th users,

I'm gonna be building my first ever build tomorrow. I have a few questions.

1. I'm using a SSD as my primary drive. Nothing will be on it it will be a fresh clean drive. Do in just plug it in and install the OS on it?

2. Can I install windows via a USB

3. Can I install drivers via a usb?

4. Should I buy Windows 10 or just get windows 8.1.

5. Should I just not build and pay someone $200 to do it?

Go ahead and call me stupid I'll give ya that. But please help. I'm sort of nervous and extra cautious.

Thanks-!!

Yes you should be fine and the electrostatic discharge (ESD) that would happen on any components would normally be harmless. But still, you can kill your components and 99% of the time, the warranty won't cover it. So all you have to do is just touch something like the back of your computer case or something everything you handle a component.

And yes, you can download the BIOS update for your motherboard off of your motherboard manufacturer's website once you get it up and running.

Could I see your part list just to make sure everything will work? :p

Hi matty,
1.Most of the times yes. Sometimes you may need to change boot priority on your bios/UEFI. Nothing hard here.
2.Yes you can Search the internet for Microsoft media creation tool , then you select if you want to create an iso or burn it on an usb flash drive.
3.Yes definitely
4.If you have Windows 8.1 genuine you just enter your key in the installation process. Windows 10 november update recognizes previous genuine keys
5.200$ to built your system? NO. It's a steal... You can do it your self or you can find someone cheaper.

1. Yes you can. If you don't know how to make your SSD boot priority 1 refer to the manual of your motherboard.
2. Yes you can, in fact Windows 10 should come shipped with a USB loaded with the Windows 10 ISO ready for install.
3. Yes you can but there is no need. Just get the up-to-date drivers off of the manu. website.
4. Get Windows 10 don't bother with 8.1.
5. As long as you don't do anything for the lack of a better word "Dumb". This worst thing you could do was bend a pin in the motherboard socket if you are using Intel. And if you are using AMD then the worst thing you could do would be bending a pin on your CPU. Just making sure to keep yourself grounded with an anti-static band (not really necessary) or just touch something metal (preferably not painted) every time you are about to handle something like a GPU.

I'm working on a wood floor room, my buddy (whom has built PC's before) said I'll be fine. (He would build it, but he is a amputee!)

I'm getting Windows 8.1 but then a immediate upgrade to 10.

But, I can hook all the stuff up, then go online and download the bios while using my computer... correct?

Touch the side of your metal PC case should discharge ESD. Work with the PC powered down and unplugged. Hold power button down for 5 seconds after unplugging the PC to release left over electrical current
