I currently have an i5-4460, and I'm wondering on which of the following would be a good budget motherboard for gaming since i'm trying to cut costs. I'm basically looking to strike a balance between affordability and looks (a lost cause i know), so I shortlisted the following motherboards:

Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H
ASRock H97M Anniversary
Asus B85M Gamer
MSI B85M Gaming

The Gigabyte one looks really good, but the colors suck. lol

If you are looking forward to gaming I'd suggest getting a Z97 chipset from the LGA1150 socket. Although MSI is not known for its motherboards, I think you could give a shot to this one, what do you think?

That's hardly the budget board the OPs looking for. Their CPU is locked and I don't think that SLI is an option. A H97 or B85 Gaming board is likely to have the audio codec and/or internet upgrade that they want.

Get the ASRock H97M aniversary then. It is pretty "decent" for his needs

yeah, i'm not looking for a z series board in particular. i'm pretty torn between the newer chipset on the h97 boards and the gaming series b85s, which are pretty nice since they have the sound codecs etc.

as for looks, anything that's black and not too gaudy would do. so far the h97m anniversary and the asus b85 gamer look pretty good. is there a really huge difference in terms of bios and software features between those two chipsets?
