I just did a fresh install of Windows 7. I downloaded all of the drivers for my motherboard (MSI 880G-E45) and installed them (Chipset / Audio / LAN). Everything installed fine. However, when i boot into Windows 7, there is no internet access (Message = Network 2 No Internet access). I have to manually unplug and replug in my ethernet cable before it works (Message = Network Internet Access). It seems on startup it defaults to Network 2 which is incorrect, but when I reset the Network cable it correctly goes back to Network. Not sure why that even makes a difference /shrug. Also, there are no issues with the Network Adapter in Device Manager.

I did not have this problem the first time I installed Windows (had to re-install, different issue) until after I installed the chipset drivers (I installed the LAN drivers first and they worked well).

There seems to be an issue with this motherboard as this is not the first time i recall experiencing this issue on a fresh install of Windows. A couple of years ago I remember having this very problem and in fact I think it's what stalled me finishing and using this computer as the issue was very annoying. I even bought a separate NIC to bypass the on-board one, but i believe i had the same issues (though the details are hazy).

Again - this is a fresh install. There is no Bonjour software (a fix that others in this situation have had). Also i went into the BIOS and couldn't find any settings there that seemed to be affecting the LAN, so i just clicked to install the optimized defaults and left it at that.

I have completely uninstalled and re-installed the drivers multiple times. I'm considering just re-installing Windows again and just not installing the Chipset drivers, but not sure what other issues that might cause. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much!

My System:
AMD Athlon X2 840
MSI 880G-E45
Kingston SSDNow 300V 120gb SSD (brand new)
4x4GB 1333 RAM
ATI Diamond 6950x2 (single card)
OCZ500SXS 500w PSU

My apologies, i'm kind of ignorant on a lot of stuff. How do i delete the network connection 2? And even if i do, i'm concerned it will just create a network connection 3 instead.

Try something like this perhaps. https://wireflare.com/delete-and-rename-network-connections-in-windows-7-windows-8/ May want to try to merge as well.

Your system shouldn't be creating network connection on its own, but unplugging ethernet cable and plugging in again may create network 2, 3, ect.

For a moment i thought that solved it. I merged the two together, restarted the computer, and I had internet access on Network Internet Access upon startup. So i restarted the computer again to verify - at which time i had Network No Internet Access. So it appears that wasn't a permanent solution. Thanks though!

I have re-installed windows a couple more times. I have also installed a separate PCI NIC disabling the on-board NIC - same results with the new NIC. I'm wondering if there's some setting with some AMD software that's causing this. Getting quite frustrated.

Very odd. I find it also highly unlikely that both NICs are having same no connection problem on boot. Are you using just the drivers for each NIC, or some kind of software besides what's included in Windows. I've seen systems before that have software that's supposed to "boost" Wifi and NIC performance, but I generally stick to native Windows settings, meaning just the drivers needed to function correctly. Maybe roll-back to an older chipset driver?

Yeah I found it very odd too. Though both the on-board and pci nics use the same drivers and show up exactly the same in device manager - I had to manually look at the back of my computer to see which place I had the cable plugged into to verify that I was indeed using the pci nic - I'm afraid that amd is doing something and installing the video card installs the problem too (as it seems it installs for everything) - I wish I had an nvidia card to see if that would install without causing a nic issue

I suppose I could look online - but to install I used the disk that came in the box with it. When that didn't make a difference I didn't bother thinking any more about it. Great suggestion though - thanks for continuing to try!
