My Asus card was supposed to work like this:
Silent Mode (Boost Clock speed): 1265 MHz
Gaming Mode (Boost Clock) : 1291 MHz
OC Mode (Boost Clock) : 1317 MHz

However, my card simply goes up to 1418 MHz and stays there no matter what I do/play and no matter what mode I am in. AfterBurner is showing a 40% load - still, the clock is glued to the max.....

What am I missing? When and where does this "boost"-able quality shine?

Turbo Boost ratings are almost never exact. With good cooling, it's normal to see Boost clocks well above their advertised limit. Basically, the limit is your GPU temperature. If you are below 80c, then your boost clocks will go as high as your power limit, voltage, and core clock offset will allow. You are fortunate that your setup is allowing some pretty high clocks.

Check in your GPU monitoring software for the overclocking limits: Temp Limit, Votage Limit, Power Limit, and OVMax Limit. A value of '1' indicates that variable is the one limiting your Turbo Boost clock speeds.

Thank you very much.
See, I have dealt with AMD cards and the story was really straightforward: I set the clock to 1150 MHz - the clock shows it is running @1150 MHz.

Thanks :)
