So that I can recover my files? My OS SSD decided to play "sleeping beauty" for the past week after a power outage and I'm unable to power cycle it awake.

I'm not all that familiar with partitions. When I go to make one during the Win7 setup I found that I'm unable to separate and create a new partition on my HDD. I'm guessing this is because all space is allocated for one partition.

You say your SSD is dead/dying
If so...you can't boot from that and manipulate partitions on your secondary drive.

So...
What you need to do is ensure the safety of your personal critical files.
Anything besides that (OS and applications) can...

Sorry if I wasn't so clear. I would like access to my files and I thought that perhaps this would be a way to do it.

It's a bit hard for me to say if my SSD is totally dead. A few years ago it was dead for a few weeks before I noticed it resurrected itself. I don't know when it will come back, if ever. I don't have any other storage devices lying around.

Is it really impossible for me create a partition on my 2 TB HDD? Would I be forced to reformat the entire disk to even create another?

What do you have in the way of drives and install media? Windows, Linux, whatever.
