Operating System Not Present

Hi,

Picked up a MacbookPro A1278 (sold as seen) at an aucion
it has no operating system all it gives me is a white screen
with a file with a ? on it so cannot start it to find out what
system it needs?

Any help and advice would be much appreciated, thanks

Do you have another Apple computer/laptop available or is that not a possibility? How to proceed from here depends on your answer.

no this is the first apple i have ever bought, as a side note the cd/dvd disk keeps spining but wont eject?

You'll need to purchase a copy of OS X from the Apple Store -- they sell the USB that comes bundled with the installation media on it for a reasonable price. I'm not accusing you of piracy, per se, but the problem you're describing when it comes to installing OS X is prevalent among the pirated copies (the "lags forever" glitch).

hi itmobo,

i have not been able to eject the disk so it
could be anything music, dvd dodgy oper-
ating system i have no clue at all until i
can work out how to eject the disk

So no i have`nt tried to load a dodgy disk

Got to do this right as I`m donating it to
the local youthclub so anything pirated is
straight out of the window

On ebay they have lots of operating disks
but not a clue which to buy (they all seem
to be from America, does that make any
difference

do you know anybody that has a working apple computer & possible apple account as you can download the latest mac os for free? had to do that for a customer when her hard drive in an imac crapped out.

Hi,

No I`m sorry this is first time I have
ever had a Mac, don`t know any body
with a mac

I took the back off and it has no HDD
do you have to buy a special HDD
with it being a mac

There is something in the cd drive I
don`t know what as it won`t eject

Perhaps I should have just bought
them a pc off ebay

is a standard sata hard drive that is also used in windows laptops. windows could be loaded onto it as it uses same parts as regular windows laptops.
