Bought a M.2 Kingston Predator 240GB ssd to upgrade my P6T Deluxe V2 Asus mobo. When i ordered it I thought it was supposed to come with an adapter for a pcie slot but didn't. Now i'm having trouble trying to find the correct one. I think I'm reading some of the specs correctly, as some of them seem to be able to connect to a regular ssd and to an M.2 ssd at the same time? Am I reading this correctly? Sure could use some advice if anyone knows what I should order.

Big Thank you if you can help.

I am afraid I have some bad news. You have a very old motherboard that was first released at the very beginning of 2009. It is a 7 year old X58 motherboard that cannot properly support a modern PCIe ssd. On a board that old you wouldn't be able to use a PCIe ssd as a boot drive.

here's the kind you want - either the Asus Hyper M.2 Kit or the Addonics. The asus M.2 > PCIe adapter is a little higher quality, in design as well as execution - asus uses a taller mounting socket as well as standoff for the screw, so the M.2 SSD will have a larger gap between it and the expansion card, allowing for more airflow behind it

Thx Original Ralph! I actually called Kingston in Southern California and they will send you the Kingston PCIe card for $15us and they pay the shipping. I was quite impressed with the service from them. They required that I email them a copy of the invoice to prove that I purchased that m.2 ssd as they don't sell them retail, but I believe they know of the shortage for these cards they made an exception. The part # is "SNA-HHHL/P"

So I have received the pcie adapter, I've been able to install the new os but I'm running into a booting issue. 99% of the time I reboot it can't find the M.2 ssd, give me the option to hit the "any key" because it can't find a boot device. I can hit the "any key" sometimes once and sometimes several times then it will go into the os on the M.2 drive. I can't figure out why it just won't go in the first place. Any one have any ideas?

JFC, how is it possible to have a wrong anwser marked as solution, and be one of the first results that show up in google?

Only in tomshardware...

I HAVE and samsung 950 pro on a pci-e adapter card from ebay, sticked in my ASUS P6T Deluxe v2, and IT SIMPLY WORKS!

Of course, instead of givin 2300MB/s read transfer, i get 1500MB/s since it only supports PCI-e v2, but IT WORKS, and its blazing fast!

BTW, the pci-e adapter was the cheappest one on ebay, under 5 euros...

So. Can you repeat for a stupid one please ? P6T Deluxe v2 can use PCIx SSD OR M.2 on PCIx adapter as main boot drive ?

I have SM951 I wonder if I Can use it. Or only newer -->NVMe <-- drives can do it.

P.S.

At list I have AHCI based unit, back then there were no NVMe , period. Wonder if it'll work.

For now I am using SSD regular to boot and M.2 for all programs.

When I'll try to install Windows I'll try on M.2 and will report.

Honestly I haven't tried it yet. It's work pc and I simply hadn't had time to mess with it yet. I mean I guess what I can do I can boot with flash card and check it out if drive visible to begin with, because if it's not I don't have to install anything we'll know .... I'll try to do it in near future (a week or less) and will report.
