Hi everyone, I have an amd fx6300 amd am just wondering about the idle temp, according to various temperature software (Hwmonitor, Speedfan, Core temp) it idles at 25 degrees Celsius, (fluctuate a bit going from 19C to 34C but mainly stays in the 24-29 range)in the bios though it reads 44 degrees Celsius, I've read on various websites not to trust the bios readout, but I've also read not to trust the software Temps. Any help on figuring out which to go by? And is 25 degrees to low?

System
Amd fx6300 @3.8ghz
Asus M5A78L-M-usb 3
Asus nvidia 750 ti
Cheap crucial ram 8GB
Corsair 600w psu
Bitfenix prodigy m case

Solution
As DarkVirgo eludes to, AMD chips, in general (probably has more to do with the chipsets and motherborads, than the chips themselves) rarely ever report correct temps in software (especially idle temps). That goes back as far as at least the Athlon II days.

Basically, trust the BIOS temps first, although be aware that BIOS temps aren't true idle, so the temps won't be as high at true idle as they are in the BIOS.

Based on my own experiences with that exact cpu, your bios readout sounds more accurate. For some reason software readouts on temps with the FX series cpus are really strange. According to hardware monitor mine would idle at 15c on it's stock cooler, meaning that it would be outperforming a custom water loop. Needless to say, that's a bit off.

You're right about not trusting SW for temperature readout but by the time you get to BIOS your temps have changed and idle temperatures are not that important anyway.
Get AOD (AMD OverDrive) it's most accurate of all for AMD systems. You can find it on AMD site.

Already have it, thermal margin is 40-50C, seen as higher is better ill take it.
