So I'm new to building, and I had a friend help me purchase a bundle. I know now that this PSU is not recommended and will definitely change it as soon as I have the money. My question is does it provide enough power on the 12v rails (it has two - 1x23 and 1x20) to power a new purchase, a Zotac Gtx 970 amp extreme core edition gpu? I understand that it draws around 150 watts and that it recommends a 500w minimum PSU and I'm certain I have that covered. But I don't know much about rails and how to tell what the graphics card needs on the rail and it doesn't tell me a combined total on the rail. If anyone can help me out or tell me I'm overthinking this please do. Lol Thanks for your help in advance guys.

Yep you will be fine until you upgrade to a quality unit. The card will get 75 watts from the PCIe slot and the rest from the power connectors from the PSU.
Most likely distribution on your PSU is CPU and motherboard on one rail and PCI'e on the other in any case the smaller of the two 20amps can deliver 240watts.

Rolli, thanks a lot. Now I understand how to gauge it. I watched a few videos on rail power distribution and they recommended a minimum of 24amps on the rail for high end gpu's and now I wonder why as my card supposedly has a higher draw than most in its class. Then I was confused as to where it drew the power from, as in both rails, just one, etc. Your answer has made me understand both of my questions. Thanks so much for the help. I do have one last question. The 75 watts from the PCIe slot on the mobo, is that a standard thing? I never knew the slot itself gave power. Like I said I've never built one before and this will be my first time actually taking apart a system and upgrading a part.

Ah. Thanks for the info. I was finally able to find a reputable source on it and read further into it. This can be closed now. I will look into getting a more reliable PSU as soon as I can afford it. My username isn't just for looks. Lol Rolli, I can't thank you enough for the clear and concise answers. I'm sure you'll see more posts from me from time to time. Thanks again.
