Hello everyone,

I built my PC roughly 4 years ago, and I was happy with it until it started crashing randomly while playing battlefield 4 on low and medium settings. So my family was nice enough to offer me whatever upgrade I want that will be lower than 700$. These are my computer specs as of right now:

Motherboard: P67 Sabertooth
CPU: i5-2550K OC @ 4.3Ghz
GPU: SAPPHIRE DUAL-X Radeon R9 270X
Ram: 16GB @ 1333MHZ
HDD: 2TB Seagate, 1TB Samsung Both @ 7200RPM
SSD: Crucial BX100 250GB
PSU: 750W Corsair

At the beginning, i thought i would just buy the GTX980Ti however, after doing some research I read somewhere that my CPU will bottleneck the GTX980Ti. So I don't know what to buy really. I play on a Full HD screen and I won't be upgrading to 4K until it becomes relatively cheap to own. and I want to run any upcoming game on at leat High, 91fps @ FHD. I'm not a serious gamer, however, I enjoy playing some games here and there.

Thanks in advance,

Mnfear.

The 980ti should not get bottle necked too bad by the 2500k. The Second gen i5 is still very capable, especially at 4.3ghz. I would not worry about it.

Now, if you are only playing at 1080p, you can get away with running something cheaper like a 970 or even a 960 and still get excellent frame rate. Both of those cards are very fast and much cheaper than the 980ti. If you are not making the move to 1440p or 4k, the 980ti is way too much unless you absolutely have to have super high FPS. The 970 would be fine for 1440p and it will blow away most games at 1080p.

Your move, I see no reason to throw money at a card that you wont be utilizing.

True, it is just if I get the GTX970? what should I also buy, I love my monitor and don't want to buy a new one. do you have any other suggestions? my friend said that I should get a new Mobo+Cpu Combo, but I just feel the 2550k still has some juice left in it.

It sounds like you have money to spend, and thats fine. You dont NEED to upgrade your motherboard and CPU. Now that does not mean that you shouldn't if you want newer tech. The new chips are faster clock for clock and they are more efficient. You could also leverage newer technologies that Z97, X99, and the new Skylake supports (M.2 SSD, more USB 3.0, etc etc etc).

Tell us more about what you use your system for. Nothing wrong with upgrading the cpu and mobo, but you dont need to. Find something that you dont like, and upgrade it. I personally wish I went with a 1TB SSD instead of a 512, that will be my next upgrade.

Most of the time I just play Battlefield 4, I rarely play the witcher 3, but I'm trying to finish it, but it's so laggy or that's how I feel. I also want to get Just Cause 3, but I felt like I should upgrade my PC first. I spend roughly 7 to 10 hours daily on my computer playing BF4, I used to play WoW and will play again after the new expansion comes out. my apartment temperature is below 60 degrees at all times and my PC is next to the window so my computer gets dusty from time to times which is not that big of a deal. I don't know what else to tell ya like I said I'm not a serious gamer, and I'm only playing this much right now is because I'm out of school for the next 30 days. there is nothing I really hate, my PC loads up fast, and I can upgrade my Motherboard and CPU right now or save up and get something better next year.

Btw, which version of the GTX970 and what manufacturer should I go with?

Thank you so much :) for the fast replies.
