I'm making a switch from AMD to Intel, but I haven't really been following Intel since Sandy Bridge. I'm switching from an (absolutely awful) FX-4100 which I have overclocked to 4GHz to either an i3 4170 or an i3 6100, however I noticed that DDR3 1.5v wasn't listed in the support.

Before I begin asking, my current RAM is 2x4GB modules of 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 RipjawsX (@ 1.5v), and I'm aware that I'll need to change my motherboard too.

I was wondering if the 6100 will even support my RAM and:
1.) If it does, will there be issues / will I be loosing out on maximum performance? Is this particular RAM even supported by LGA1151?

2.) If it doesn't, is there a way that I can under-volt my RAM (without loosing performance)

3.) Or should I buy a DDR4 mobo and some DDR4 RAM. (N.B. The tippy-top of my budget for CPU+RAM+MOBO is about 350-375 USD (I'm in NZ so take $25-ish off that for inflation's sake))

4.) Or should I buy a DDR3 mobo and some 1.35v DDR3 RAM. (same budget)

5.) Or should I just buy the i3 4170

6.) Or should I buy a completely different processor+mobo+maybe RAM combo all together?

If you need it the rest of my specs are as follows:

Mobo: AM3+ GA-970A-D3 (I updated the BIOS to Award v6.00PG)
RAM: 2x4GB modules of 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 RipjawsX (@ 1.5v)
CPU: AMD FX-4100 (@ 4.0GHz)
PSU: Corsair HX-650 (Gold 80+)
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200.12 (the 001 model)
GPU: ASUS GTX 760 DCUII OC

It's been about 2 years since I've done a build so thanks in advance =)

you need to get a motherboard the uses ddr3 instead of ddr4. they are around but uncommon. the skylake 6100 is only really attractive right now if you are going to overclock it. otherwise at its current price you would be better off with the 4170. but i would urge you to at least go for the i5-4460.

Are you going to be gaming if so the dual core I3 will struggle when games are starting to become a Quad Core standard in 2015 and beyond if not gaming then you'll be fine but like nikoli707 said "you need to get a motherboard the uses ddr3 instead of ddr4" and you'll be able to use your other parts
