Morning all,

Before I start here is my current spec.

GTX 780 ti oc
i7 4770K oc
8 GB RAM
Sabertooth Z87
Corsair RM750
ASUS PB287Q

I use this for 4k films and games.

My question is, I am looking to get a large 4k screen which I will want my PC to stream 4k films to.

I would also like to play games in 4k on my current monitor.

I am not interested in gaming on a larger screen in 4k just yet.

I know the GTX 780 ti has become obsolete in many places now, I would be grateful if anyone can suggest the best option for upgrades.

Another GTX 780 ti or is it worth me waiting until next year when these new Pascal ones arrive?

Thanks.

I wouldn't add another 780Ti unless you have the 6gb version. Ive hit 3gb vram usage on my 780 while gaming at 1080p, it would be a big problem with 4k, you would have good horsepower but not enough vram. Your decision is either 980Ti or wait 6-9 months to seem what Pascal brings

wWhen it comes to the GTX 700 seiries, they have become rather obselete, overshadowed by the 900 series, but somewhat rightly so in such. IF you are planning to upgrade, you should consider different prices, as a GTX 980 Ti would be enough, but too expensive. However, a GTX 980 would be a good path to upgrade to as they are good for 1080 and up for gaming. If you want buttery smooth, you could get a GTX Titan X or Z. (JK about the Titans, they're more than 1000 USD.)

In general one card is preferable to two, given the issues around extra power, heat, driver and game compatibility with SLI etc.

Any of the cards you note would suffice, but if you have no real urgency to upgrade I'd recommend you wait for the new Pascal cards to arrive, given they are new generation tech (with all the advances and efficiencies that normally brings).

If you can't wait, then of the cards noted you're really looking at the 980 in my opinion.

The 980 is not a big upgrade, it is better but not much. Also 4gb vram for 4k gaming is not something I would invest in. For me the obvious choice is the 980Ti with its 6gb vram. Performs nearly identically to the TitanX at 4k gaming at nearly 2/3 the cost

OK guys, thanks for your responses, I think I shall wait until next year for upgrade of gpu.

Probably have to upgrade the lot by then anyway.
