Help! All files on external hard-drive and computer turned into shortcuts or text document

Hello help is needed, im pretty sure all or at least most files on my computer and external hard-drive have turned into either a shortcut or text document.

Please provide some solutions for me i really need my files. I can provide more information if u ask for it. thanks

Hi there jansenbbb,

That is a strange issue indeed.
Have you scanned the drive with some antivirus/malware tool? In case you haven't, you can try that.
Also, you can boot up Ubuntu from a CD or a flash drive and see how your files are going to appear: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/267999-32-recover-data-mode
