Hi there fellers.

I have a question about what is stated in the title. I have built a new system and everything runs fine. I added 16gb more ram of the exact same kind. Now when I start up it crashes one time, then proceeds to startup and function normally. Just worried that this could mean something is not right, but I'm not sure. My setup is as follows:

i7-4790k
ASUS Maximus VII Hero
2x gtx 780 sli
and the kicker 32gb (now) Corsair 1866mhz ram

Any advice is appreciated.

Even adding the exact same model of RAM from different packs can create issues. I'd recommend running Memtest, reseating your RAM would also be a good idea:

Excerpt from the Tom's Article 'The Most Common DDR DRAM Myths Debunked' on why even mixing RAM of the same model might not work well:

"Even though you are buying two of the exact same sets, there is no guarantee that they will work together. The DRAM that goes into a package has been tested to work together. Manufacturers don’t guarantee mixing or adding one set to another, even when they are the same exact model.

Customers often try this with higher data rate sticks using XMP to set them up. With XMP enabled, the motherboard may read the profile for two sticks of DRAM and set the secondary timings accordingly, but the tRFC timing for two modules may be 226, whereas four sticks require 314. This can be especially hard for most users to troubleshoot/find, as few ever go into the secondary DRAM timings."

From my understanding of it, ram had to be purchased together for using one channel. Mine has dual channel, so I purchased 2x8gb when I first built it and another 2x8 recently. Is that not the case? About to try the mem test

It appears I had it on an XMP profile for some reason? Not sure why it was set there. I thought I left the ram alone. It had lowered voltage and I think that was throwing it off. Set it back to auto and haven't had trouble since.
