hello,

i am going to upgrade my pc. I am getting the amd fx 8350 cpu however i need to choose a motherboard, I came across both the Gigabyte 970A-DS3P and Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 i am stuck on which one to get.

If you think i shouldn't get any of these and you have a better suggestion please keep the price £50 and under.

I believe the AMD FX 8350 cpu has got Vishera cores which don't work too well on the older AM3 motherboards like the ones you suggested (760G). The Gigabyte 970A-DS3P however might work. Although I've read somewhere the 970 chipset older versions didn't support the Vishera most recent CPUs. I've read there are 970 2.0 versions which got an update on the BIOS to work well with...

I've read there are 970 2.0 versions which got an update on the BIOS to work well with Vishera cores. Elsewhat would require a manual BIOS update or something similar if I'm not mistaken. The most recommended would be 990FX or 990X but those are expensive and usually only used for better and high-end builds (usually crossfire support, etc).

I'll recommend this, you tell me if it suits you:

ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 : http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/970%20Extreme3%20R2.0/

You can see the price here : http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-970pro3r20

(that is within your budget)

In case you look forward to a 990FX, I'd recommend this:

ASRock 990FX Extreme3 : http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/990FX%20Extreme3/index.asp?cat=

You can see the price here : http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-990fxextreme3

(as you can see, that's a little over your budget)

It's up to you to decide which suits you better, I think the ASRock 970 Extreme3 2.0 will do just fine.
