The 390x is only a little bit more powerful than the 970, but costs close to £100 more, consumes much larger amounts of power and will run a lot hotter. I would just get a 970/390 or a 980 Ti if you can spend a bit more, 390x/980 are a waste in my book.

Whichever one has the cheapest price will be the one you should get. Also Sapphire has the most accessories that comes with your graphics card and Asus has the best packaging when it comes to graphics cards. Gigabyte is in between they don't have the best packaging but they don't have the best accessories that comes with the graphics card. XFX is the one that cheap out of accessories the most.

I would still personally take a 970, SLI support on 650W. What PSU do you have? the 390x is one of the most power hungry cards that exists, so chances are he may not even be able to run it.

Yeah you made good point the R9 390X is power hungry but Peter forgot to mention what power supply he has in order for use to help him make his decision. And 650 Watt for GTX 970 SLI I think 750 Watt would be on the safe side maybe a Seasonic X750 is good

A good quality 650W unit should be enough, as long as OP doesn't have an OC'd CPU that is going balls to the wall. If he needed a PSU upgrade, the 750 G2 is $10 cheaper than the 650 G2 so that would be perfect.

That also depends on your price, and what case you have. The NZXT Kraken X61 is a nice 280mm AIO, but the Corsair H105 is also a good pick. There are some others like the EK Predator and the Fractal Design Kelvin S36 (360mm) but it all depends on the two things I mentioned above.

Yeah I guess so I haven't really used any liquid coolers in my life I always stick with air cooling. My favorite cheap cooler is the cooler master hyper 212 evo its pretty good at cooling your cpu even at like 4.7 GHz
