what is difference between digital tv box and dish receiver?

Solution
A dish receiver has that hardware to control the dish. The outside part needs power from the receiver and some inputs to tell it how to configure the receiver on the dish. The dish receiver also has the necessary hardware to decrypt and decode the downlink into audio video.

A off-the-air digital TV tuner has just a tuner. A cable box has a tuner plus the decryption hardware necessary to process the audio/video.
