My PC Specs
i3 2120 3.3
GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte WindForce 2X OC 2GB Edition
8gb ram
and my resolution is 1366*768
i can play games on low aslong as i get above 30 fps and in multiplayer games above 60 fps
i can lower my resolution even more

Solution
I would start saving for some upgrades as soon as possible. Sandy Bridge processors are hard to find now and expensive. For the price of an i5 Sandy Bridge, you could get a lower end Haswell i5 and a 1150 socket motherboard. Your graphics card isn't bad--maybe upgrade it at the end of 2016 when they go on sale again. Your ram is fine too, but if you want to upgrade to 16GB, you could do that.

Instead of upgrading from your i3 to an i5 Sandy bridge, upgrade to a lower end Haswell i5, like the 4590. It will require a new motherboard, but it will be better suited for current gen games.

i know that with a i5 my gpu and 8gb ram i can run recent games in decent fps but i am talking about the next 1-2 years like what are the thing i need to get first and what i can upgrade later on

Any modern I5 can keep up with new powerful GPU's that even includes Sandy Bridge. It was not considered a viable upgrade to go from SB to Haswell by reviewers when Haswell released because the overall gain is only between 10-15% percent. Now with the Skylake out they have changed their opinion and say it is viable because now we are hitting 20% performance increase over SB.
I see two options grab a cheap used I5 and enjoy it for the next couple of years or upgrade to Skylake.
You did not list what board you have but it may support Ivy Bridge like this http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_nkw=i5+3470&_frs=1
