I'm sitting on an Asus Zenbook UX303L, with an Intel i7 4510U and an Nvidia GeForce 840M. My screen is 3200x1800 in resolution so of course that has an impact on game performance. According to Intels website, my Integrated GPU is called the Intel HD 4400.
I've been trying to run some games that require an OK computer to run and I've gotten pretty bad performances on them, but I figured it was just my GPU, the 840M, being itself since it's not a GTX card. And all the games I've tested were running on the 840M.
Well, yesterday I decided I could use it to run lighter games and older games, so I downloaded The Binding of Isaac. It started in Windowed Mode, which was really small, and Fraps told me I was running 60 FPS. I then changed it to run Fullscreen and the FPS dropped drastically down to 17 FPS. In the menus. I thought maybe the game was running of the Integrated GPU, so I went to Nvidia Control Panel to check but it was running on the 840M.
It was only by accident that I chose to use the Integrated Intel GPU, and when I booted up Binding of Isaac again, now running on the Intel, I had 60 steady FPS. This was odd, so I decided to try playing a bit and jumping between the Integrated and the Dedicated, and the Integrated was performing so much better.
And I've checked with other games too, it's not just The Binding of Isaac.
So, after doing a lot of googling, and checking and trying to figure out why this is, I've come here to ask you guys. Why is the Intel HD 4400 performing, probably, like it should be and my 840M running like it has syrup in it?
I've done two re-installs of the Nvidia driver, both times wiping the previous version, so drivers are up to date. I've tried forcing the 840M both globally and on the specific programs, but it doesn't seem to be that it doesn't use the 840M since the forced Intel runs really good, but rather the 840M that is underperforming.
I would love to find a fix to this, since I assume that the 840M should be performing better than the Intel card.
