I recently purchased an EVGA GTX 980 ti to replace my old MSI GTX 780 ti. Now that my old GPU is sitting in storage, pretty much gathering dust, I was wondering if it is possible to put that one into my other free PCIe slot and have the two GPUs act as one... I do have windows 10 installed, so I do have direct x 12 installed and I had heard news about dx12 making it possible for two GPUs of different manufacturers to work together.

If this is not possible at this time, can i at least put the old card in and have it running as a PhysX processor?

Here are my system specs:
Windows 10 pro x64
evga geforce gtx 980ti FTW
8GB DDR3 RAM
3 TB storage array in RAID 0
MSI geforce GTX 780ti (not currently installed)
EVGA 850W PSU
Asus Z97A motherboard

Why not sell the 780 as your using a 980ti you won't even notice the 780ti as a physx card. There are a ton of post on usimng a physx with the 900 series and they really don't add anything noticable. If you get a cple hundred from your 780 thas another upgrade to what you have now or some down on another 980 for sli in the future.

That's not true. I use two gtx 980 and a GTX 650 for physx. But their is a caveat. You have to be maxing out your primary card(s) first. for example if you can crank up the gaming settings (i usually do it because i max out filtering and AA through control panel, not just in game settings because they don't always use the maximum amount of filtering your PC is capable of) enough in a game to drop below 60FPS at vsync with max physx setting enabled then having a physx card will bring the frame rate up. If you don't/can't the physx card isn't needed.

I'm just going by what I have read and the charts I have seen on using a physx lower end card with a 980ti. Do a search yourself on here and read the results.
I am not saying you might not see some improvemnt but its not a whole lot according to what Ive read.
