So I just got a new cpu cooler and when I install it, everything starts for a second then turns off. Stock cooler works fine

Solution
Sounds like you over tightened it and the pressure was warping the socket or otherwise breaking a connection somewhere. You did have the fan plugged in right ? And in the BIOS you reduced the minimum fan speed to less than the rpm of your new cooling fan ?

yeah it was plugged in.. And what do you mean about the bios?

BIOSs have protection features which, if enabled, prevent the system from booting if there's not adequate cooling. So let's say the Intel stock cooler runs at 1200 rpm cause its a lil tiny thing. Now you replace it with a cooler which has 140mm fan that has a minimum speed o 600 rpm. So the BIOS is checking to see if it has 1200 rpm or better and your new fan is only 600, so it prevents the system from starting.

Newer systems have gotten around this by forcing fans to go full speed at boot and then will sow down once in Windows.
