Is there any reason to upgrade from a 290 yet?

Christmas time is here, bonus is here. Contemplating if i need a new card or not?

Currently have
i5 4670k
16gb ram
SSD
and a gigabyte 290 OC. Is there any reason to buy a newer card? I only game in 1080 (have dual monitors though)

IDK why but it just seems the 290's starting to struggle with some newer games for max settings... might want to go back to nivida since they have more frequent drivers etc.

Thoughts? Thanks

the only gpu upgrade that would be worth it puts you into the $700 range. for that much i think you should just get a second 290 for crossfire and get a good 4K monitor. you still wont be able to max games at that resolution, but NEXT year when Pascal is out, you'll have a good need to upgrade to a $700 GPU :)

It would be silly to upgrade to another 28nm GPU for little more performance for a lot more money. If you are thinking of an upgrade it is best to wait for the next generation AMD Arctic Island or Nvidia Pascal GPU which are coming on 2016.
