Is my Graphics Card faulty?

I recently bought the ASUS Strix GTX 960 2G and after installing the drivers and restarting my my computer won't recognise the card.

Disabling the built-in seems to work fine and it usually does it automatically, but the Device Manager only lists
'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' instead of my graphics card. The only noticeable difference when the card is plugged in are some resolution changes.

I'm running on Windows 10 and after installing the drivers from the CD, I tried downloading drivers for win10 and win8.1 but still nothing. Games don't register it and I can't play at higher settings.

The card's fans are spinning and the LED indicates it's inserted properly so I figured it was okay.
Could I just have a defective card?

My build is:
CPU: Intel (BX80646G3260) G3260 3.3GHz 3MB
PSU: Silverstone ST60F-ESB 600w Strider Essential
MOBO: ASRock H81M-ITX LGA1150 Intel H81 Mini ITX
All encased in a mini-itx case.

I've listed everything I could think of but if anyone knows of any issues or steps I might have missed please let me know so I can start again.

Before anyone asks: Yes, I've inserted the card properly. I've tested with and without the card plugged in. I've also tried on two same model motherboards and recently upgraded PSU's, so I think that eliminates the possibility of one of those components being at fault.

My only thoughts are that perhaps there's an issue with the drivers for Windows 10 (I've seen others mentioning the same problems).

Yes and yes.
That's why I'm puzzled as to if it's faulty or not, since my monitor plugs into and displays, as well it reacting to being plugged into the PSU.

OK you are saying your monitor is connected to the card and displays but device manager calls the card std VGA adapter?
You have installed the drivers for it and they do not kick in?
Have you installed all your motherboard drivers?
Have you done all windows updates?

That's right.
All my drivers appear to be up to date since they're listed as more recent than drivers I look at downloading.

The drivers from the CD seem to install correctly but after restarting there's no changes. If anything it slows my PC down.
I've set the BIOS so PCIe is the primary graphics display, so the built-in cancels automatically for the card. Still nothing.

Sorry for the delayed reply, I've been busy given the time of year.

I had another go at installing the drivers from the disk but after restarting I'm still left with the same problem.
It even came up with "Windows has determined that the driver software for Microsoft Basic Display Adapter is up to date".

The thing is it not basic adapter so I am not understanding why not recognizing it. Looks to me it is either the board or the card. I am presuming you have re seated the card in the slot and the PCIe power cable to it from the PSU?

Further to that do you have the latest BIOS on the board?

I have no idea what's causing my PC to not recognise the card at all.

I can't understand why it would be the board since I haven't read anything about compatibility issues.
Also, I recently upgraded PSU and replaced my MOBO with replica model and the card still shows up as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

I just downloaded the most recent BIOS after you mentioned it. Haven't noticed any changes.

Success!
I finally found the correct drivers and once they installed, everything runs smoothly.

I'd tried this site earlier in the week and thought I'd selected this before but looks like I must have clicked 32 bit instead of 64.

The card works fine and I can now play all my games at Ultra settings.

Thank you cst1992 and rolli59 for your patience and quick replies. After a frustrating couple of days it was just a matter of researching, backtracking and installing the appropriate drivers for Windows 10.

Whoops! I actually meant to credit both of you in that message. Guess I was in such a hurry to post it and begin testing games with my new card that I didn't double-check it haha.
Sorry rolli59, you were commenting from the beginning and had plenty of advice me for me. Thanks for the constant help throughout the thread mate.

It was a constant back and forth between the NVIDIA site and the specific Windows 10 compatible drivers from the GTX 960 webpage (with the site I mentioned finally working for me). Was a frustrating couple of days. At least I had right mindset with suspecting a driver issue rather than the actual card itself.

Thanks again rolli59 for constant suggestions and speedy replies. Cheers guys.
