Hi

Can someone explain the difference between the Memory and the SPD tabs in CPU-Z
My system was showing my RAM as being 9-9-9-24 but the memory tabs shows 7-7-7-20 or something alone those lines.

My new build has had issues running Prime 95 blend whereby it crashes after 10 mins or so (second or third test) - i think i have sorted it by bumping up the dram voltage by 0.5 as it ran for an hour or so yesterday without issue

apologies in advance if this is a stupid question

Solution
in cpu-z one tab is going to show you the speed your ram can run at (spd info) the other is the speed the ram is running at. if this is a new build make sure the mb has the newest bios so it has the newest cpu and ram code. in the bios check to see if your running in xmp profile. some older ddr3 ram when it set above 1600 speed needs more then 1.5v. if your ram is that then look for other ram at the same speed that uses 1.5v.

thanks for the responses.

relevant specs:
AMD 8320
gigabyte 970a ud3p
RAM ballistix sport 1600 9-9-9-24

Bios is the latest FB for the rev 2 board. XMP is enabled to Profile 1 and i've not changed anything else other than bumping the dram voltage up by 0.05 which seemed to help

I've been pulling my hair out the last 3 days trying to get it to work(run prime for longer than 10 minutes) and then noticed that tab on cpu-z and the numbers didn't match up.
I ram memceck86 (or whatever its called, with no errors and it also showed 7-7-7-20/30)

Everything is running stock speeds except for my gfx card which has a mild OC on it.

I thought the board was meant to configure the ram speeds to use whatever ram was fitted?

you are probably right, but i got bored after the second hour of memcheck86.. it did two or 3 "tests" with no errors.

I will try running the Heaven 4.0 benchmark later when im home at that was causing reboots within about 5 seconds of starting on the old voltage. Prime seems to run now so i think it is as stable as i need to with those ram speeds.

still though. how does the board OC the ram timings by default? the dimms state a set of timings, yet it auto'd and saved timings that are a lot faster.

would changing the multiplier down from 8 to 6.6 cause this?

Don't know and not sure, not been on AMD for years now.
