Hi guys, my computer has been randomly restarting with no BSOD or dump files generated even though I have automatic restart turned off and dump files activated.

Specs:
Processor: Intel i5-4590
8GB RAM Kingston
GPU: GTX 960
PSU: Coolermaster V650 (V550 before replacement)
Motherboard: Asus H97M-plus
Windows 10

Every time it restarts, the same log will appear in the event viewer stating the following:

Event 41, Kernel-Power
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
Level: Critical
User: SYSTEM
0x8000200000000002
BugcheckCode 0
BugcheckParameter1 0x0
BugcheckParameter2 0x0
BugcheckParameter3 0x0
BugcheckParameter4 0x0
SleepInProgress 0
PowerButtonTimestamp 0
BootAppStatus 0

I have done the following:
- HDD smart test
- memtestx86 (13 passes no errors)
- Replaced motherboard & PSU
- Reinstalled windows 10 several times due to the system being stuck at automatic startup repairs
- Installed the newest drivers
- Installed latest windows 10 updates

Backstory:

I had it built 3 weeks ago and it worked fine for a week until it started restarting randomly. It would restart while the computer was idle at first. Then it started restarting while I was using it. It would restart while I was playing a game or using internet explorer. There is a buzzing noise (headphones) just before it restarts.

It would restart and loop at the page where it says to press F2/del to enter bios several times before booting windows. It would sometimes restart right after logging in.

I had the motherboard and power supply replaced a week ago and the problems are starting again. The people who built my computer seem to have no idea what is causing the restarts and is blaming it on windows 10. They assured me that nothing is wrong with the parts. I have made sure to download all the latest updates and drivers as well and even a clean install of windows 10.

Event ID 41 (kernel power) would keep showing up in the event viewer. I had the PSU replaced but the problem is showing again. And now when it restarts, it would flash the pre-bios page for 1 second before going black and looping again several times. The fans remain on throughout.

I have no idea what to do at this point. Are there any other tests I should run? Is it truly a software problem or hardware? Could a power surge be causing these problems? Please help, thank you!

If the system parts were already checked out, try Windows 7 or 8 on it. Also should test the video card and RAM in a working system and other parts in yours to see if issue follows the parts. Making sure heatsinks are on properly is a good idea as well, as making sure the motherboard is and connections are in properly. A short to the motherboard may cause a restart like this.

hello, sorry for the late reply here. I've had issues that prevented me from getting online.

I have checked all the connections and they seemed secure. I have also reinstalled the heatstink with thermal paste and it's tightly fitted on.

I am still having this problem and there is no BSOD or dump files created when it happens. I have made sure to turn on dump files but still nothing. Do you think this is a hardware or software issue? Could my GPU be causing this problem?

You should try a clean Windows setup to rule out software issues, but it seems like a hardware issue, either with the video card or the power supply.

I have reinstalled windows 10 several times now, still am having issues though. I have also replaced the power supply for one with a higher wattage. Is there a way for me to test if the GPU is faulty?

Thank you for taking the time to reply btw :)

Test the card in another system with the power to run it, if it works there then it's something in your system.

I'm afraid I don't have the spare components needed to run a test like that :/

It restarted again by itself just as I was typing this. Restarted and looped at the bios page without letting me boot into windows. Goes on for a few minutes before it decides to boot into windows.
