My optical drive has disappeared from My Computer in Win 7 and will not boot from or read any discs. It shows up both in bios and Disk Management, and in Device Manager it also shows up fine.

Here's what I've tried so far:

- Uninstalled and reinstalled in Device Manager
- Deleted the upper and lower filters as per the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE fix
- Switching the sata cable to a different port on a different controller

Again, the drive is detected everywhere else, just not in My Computer and is unusable. Getting desperate - thanks in advance for any help!

Yes, it has power as it shows up in Device Manager and Disk Management and opens and closes fine, and I switched out the SATA cable when I changed it to a different SATA port.. It just won't read anything (it worked fine previously). I feel like I'm missing something, just can't figure out what. Next step is getting a new drive and swapping it out if I can't figure it out.
