I just built a new desktop computer and had it working for a half hour or so, then it stopped working. So I took it all apart and plugged things in one by one to see if it would turn on. I got everything but the case fans plugged in and it turned on just fine. As soon as i plugged the power cord for the case fans and a case fan in my computer wouldn't post.

Solution
Don't connect the fans simultaneously to motherboard and power supply.
Or, in other words, if a fan is connected to the motherboard, you don't connect it to the power supply too.
By doing that, you might damage the board.

The motherboard provides the required power to the fan.
