I need something simple to backup simple data onto (documents, pics, Unity projects and Blender projects). Just did my build upgrade and formatted my old HDD. Just in case this HDD dies I'll have those files stored on my SSD and I also want a secondary storage just for extra caution. I saw this cheap 250GB hard drive on Amazon here:
http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-ST3250310CS-7200RPM-Internal-Warranty/dp/B009XIJ0GK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1450730331&sr=8-1&keywords=250gb+hard+drive

It apparently has old software from back in 2006. Will this make any difference to my file backup?

I have a Sabrent USB connector so I can use it as an external hard drive. I won't be using it actively. It will sit doing nothing except holding my backup data.

Solution
Just spend $30 on a proper external hard drive that wasn't designed years ago. :)

Although that drive wouldn't be bad, you'd be better off with a more up to date one.

That's kind of what I've been reading. Also do you think it would be a better option to buy a new 1TB hard drive to replace my current 1.5 year old one then format the 1.5 year old one and use as backup storage? Or just format my current 1.5 year old hard drive to continue using in new build and buy an external HDD?
