Quick question about individual RAM stick capacities

Right now, I have total 8GB of G.Skills Ripjaws memory @ 1600mhz. I ordered another 8GB of RAM yesterday, same G.Skills @ 1600mhz, except its in a single stick rather than two of 4GB. Will this still work?

Even if it's identical , it may or may not work , give it a try 50\50 chance, but it will no longer run in Dual Channel mode.

So I would be better off to return it and swap it for 2x 4gb?

Still a chance they won't run because they aren't from the same retail pack , all you can do is try it.

Okay thanks. Regarding dual channel/single channel, am I going to see any significant performance hits?

Not really , so I would just try the single stick.

Try them with the 8GB in slot 1 by the CPU, and the 2x4GB in slots 3-4 - that way you have 8GB in each channel and will maintain dual channel mode
